Black halwa is a traditional Indian dessert made with whole wheat flour, sugar, ghee, and spices. Here’s how you can make it
Ingredients:
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup ghee
2 cups sugar
2 cups water
1 teaspoon cardamom powder
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg powder
A pinch of saffron (optional)
Instructions:
In a heavy-bottomed pan, roast the whole wheat flour over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it turns light brown. This should take about 10 minutes.
In another pan, heat the ghee over medium heat.
Add the roasted whole wheat flour to the ghee and stir well. Cook for about 5-7 minutes or until the mixture turns dark brown in color.
Add the sugar and 2 cups of water to the pan. Stir well to combine.
Cook the mixture over low heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture has thickened to a halwa-like consistency. This should take about 20-30 minutes.
Add the cardamom powder, nutmeg powder, and saffron, if using. Stir well to combine.
Serve the black halwa hot, garnished with a drizzle of ghee, if desired.
Enjoy your delicious and traditional black halwa!
